The Olympic champion in Seoul and native of Odessa, Gennadiy Avdeenko, is no longer in fact a resident of Odessa. Shortly after the collapse of the Soviet Union he moved to Minsk (though the two events are unconnected) and from there continued into the Belarussian hinterland, to Molodechno. There he works as a trainer in a youth sports school.
