Though the distance between fact and fiction in some parts of the media that circle the footballing world is often great, there is little doubt that CSKA Moskva goalkeeper Igor Akinfeev is one of the sports premier young goalkeepers and is naturally on the "short list" of the upper echelon of the game. Though completely unsubstantiated at this time, such a claim is not far-fetched given the extraordinary play of the Army-Men 'keeper. A strong vocal leader who consistently frustrates the opposition with machine-like efficiency, it is sometimes easy to forget that he is only twenty-three years old and his best days are in the future. While this rumour may simply be an off-handed comment, CSKA should expect many suitors for their goalkeeping gem in the very near future.
