HIDDINK: RUSSIA WILL STICK TO ATTACKING FOOTBALL

Yesterday Russian team’s head coach Guus Hiddink gave an interview to Sport Express prior to evening training session at the Millenium Stadium in Cardiff.

"We watched several matches of Wales including their home clashes with Germany and Finland", said Hiddink. "And they produced very good impression on us".

"For example they outplayed Finland in the first half of their encounter completely and Finnish players rarely had an opportunity for their attacks before the break".

"Goalkeeper of the Welsh team made a rude mistake at the end of the first half and let Finland open the score. The hosts also had advantage in the second half, however they didn’t manage to score while visitors held a quick counterattack in injury time. In any case Wales didn’t deserve this defeat".

"Welsh team is very strong and can spoil life for any competitor, especially at their home stands. So we expect our encounter will be very tough".

"I clearly remember our Moscow meeting last year when our rivals created a lot of scoring episodes in front of our goal. Just recall moment when the referee awarded Wales with a penalty kick and Igor Akinfeev didn’t let the goal in".

"I have no information about the lineup of Wales. Of course I remember Bellamy who gained valuable experience while playing in English Premier League".

"Many players from different countries play in Britain, each of them introduces his own style and now all styles are mixed. I think there is no unique British football style anymore. As for Welsh team, their players are perfectly prepared physically and tactically".

"Andrey Arshavin held the final training session in St. Petersburg on Monday from the first to the last minute and looked very well. I am not ready to say whether he will play in Cardiff and even after our training in at Millenium Stadium I won’t be able to clear up the situation".

"In general I have already determined the starting eleven. Sergey Semak is likely to replace suspended Denisov as this variant seems the best one for me now".

"Secret of successful performance in Cardiff is very simple. We just need to show our own unique style with high self-efficiency".

"Our rivals likely have their own secret of success and only the strongest team will celebrate victory".

"Russian team will stick to attacking style of football. It will be very important not to make silly mistakes, especially in our penalty area".

"After the game I want to stay in Britain. I will go to London to talk to Chelsea medical staff concerning rehabilitation of Yuriy Zhirkov. I hope he will return to full fitness soon".
